Graduated in Veterinarian Medicine by the Universidade Estadual do Ceará (1992), Master's in Pharmacologyjavascript:void(0) by the Universidade Federal do Ceará (2000) and PhD in Pharmacology by the Universidade Federal do Ceará (2004). Has experience in biomedical sciences, acting on the following subjects: malnutrition intestinal mucositis, gastroenterology, histology and neuroscience.

Graduate at Farmácia from Universidade Federal do Ceará (1984), master's at Pharmacology from Universidade Federal do Ceará (1994) and ph.d. at Pharmacology from Universidade Federal do Ceará (1999). Has experience in Pharmacology, acting on the following subjects: memória, glutamato, memory, 6-hidroxidopamina and células mesencefálicas.

João O. Malva is a Principal Investigator, with Aggregation, at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra (FMUC). He is responsible for the Project Management Office and Science Manager at FMUC. He is Secretary of the Assembly of Representatives.

He is the Vice-Director of the Interdisciplinary Research Institute of the University of Coimbra (iii) and is the scientific coordinator of the consortium "Ageing @ Coimbra" - European Reference Region for Active and Healthy Aging. He was President of the Portuguese Society of Neurosciences (2007-2011).

Has developed research in the field of Neurosciences with significant contributions in the themes of neuroprotection, neuroinflammation and neurogenesis in brain repair. Its international impact is reflected in its distinction as a member of the European DANA Alliance for the Brain (EDAB), its factor H 28 and the 2000 citations of its scientific work (November 2013)
